BACKGROUND
Sophia Doyle was born in Nova Scotia but has lived in the Brockville area most of her life.
She was always drawn to art work and often looked for a gallery when visiting different cities.
After retiring in 1972 from Brockville Chemical Industries, where she worked as a secretary to the Vice
President, she was encouraged by her sister to enroll in the Fine Arts program at St. Lawrence College.
EDUCATION
In 1992 she graduated with distinctinction, earning a certificate of Fine
Arts. She also received the
Academic Council Award for the highest academic proficiency in the graduating
class for each program year.
The St. Lawrence Summer School of the Arts offers workshops each year and
features nationally known artists.
Sopia takes advantage of these opportunities.
AWARDS
Sophia has participated in a few juried shows and received
1st Adult Division Prize in Oil at the Rideau Valley Art Festival.
EXHIBITS
Sophia shows locally at several locations, including
the Arts Centre and City Hall.

PREFERRED MEDIA
Alhough her preferred media is watercolour, she also likes oils.

She finds inspiration in water, landscapes and flowers.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Nature provides countless pictures from which I try to create a painting.
I try to spend time observing all manner of things. Observation
can become the inspiration for a painting, whereupon my imagination
takes over.
